Last week Governor Ron DeSantis named The Arnold Palmer the official drink of the Sunshine State. I have fond memories of drinking iced tea, and lemonade, during my NY summers as a child, but never the two mixed together. I remember “helping” my dad mow the yard, he would put me on his lap, start the riding mower, and we would ride around watching the blades devour dandelions and tall blades of grass. Anytime I’m in the presence of the sweet smell of cut grass, I’m immediately transported back to those days. My mom would always bring my dad and I a tall glass of iced tea.
The taste of lemonade also brings me back to some of my fondest memories as a child. I was fortunate to have an amazing relationship with my grandparents. During the summer, my parents and I would often visit them. Nearly every time we pulled up to their house, they were sitting next to each other in the yard (sometimes asleep 😊). They were some of the most generous people you could ever meet, and without fail would offer us something “cold to drink.” They always had Country Time lemonade which I could never turn down.
I guess now all I need to do is to combine the two!
Perhaps that’s what Jack is enjoying after a long day of surfing the Gulf…
Well done, Governor DeSantis, cheers!
